The Camps of the New Hampshire Department
The Sons of Veterans (of the United States of America) was organized in 1881, their name amended in 1925 to the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War.  It received its federal charter in 1954, making it the legal heir of the Grand Army of the Republic. In New Hampshire, the first Camp was organized in 1882. The NH Department (early on called a division) held its first annual encampment in 1883.

Throughout its history, the state has had camps numbered up to 60. In many cases, newly formed camps within the department were assigned numbers that had been previously used by camps that had since relinquished their charters. Today, there are six camps in operation in New Hampshire.

They are:
W.W. Brown Camp, No. 1 - Manchester
Charles W Canney Camp, No. 5 - Rochester
J.S. Durgin Camp, No. 7 - Boscawen
Major McKinley Camp, No. 9 - Lebanon
S.G. Griffin Camp, No. 10 - Keene
Gilman E. Sleeper Camp, No. 60 - Salem
